Q: How much will I get paid?

A: With so many financial pressures these days, good pay is more important now than it’s ever been. We offer excellent, highly competitive rates, with the actual amount depending on your role. Rates also vary depending on the shifts you pick and the client you work for. So you’ll always know where you are, we specify rates of pay for all shift patterns during your interview and before every assignment is confirmed.

Q: How will I get paid?

A: You have a choice here. You can either receive payment from NLG through PAYE or you can use an umbrella company. We understand you have bills to pay and we do everything we can to get your money to you as soon as possible – shifts worked one week will be paid on the following Friday.

Q: What’s an umbrella company?

A: An umbrella company is an intermediary that processes the payroll of temporary workers. This kind of company must process PAYE and NI contributions, holiday pay, and stick to the National Minimum Wage in the same way that a normal employer would. However, unlike a normal employer, an umbrella company will charge you for these services.

Q: How many hours am I expected to work?

A: The great thing about working with NLG is that’s completely up to you. With so many clients on our books, we can offer you plenty of flexibility with shifts, and you just need to let us know when you’re available.

Q: Do I have to commit to a set number of hours?

A: No, you don’t. Our flexible approach means you can choose the shift patterns that best fit with your lifestyle and your other commitments. In this sense, you’re the boss.

Q: How much tax will I pay on the money I earn?

A: That depends on your total earnings for the tax year. Earnings below £12,570 are tax-free. After that, you’ll pay the basic income tax rate of 20% on earnings up to £50,270. This increases to 40% for earnings between £50,270 and £125,140. For anything above that amount, you’ll pay 45%.

Q: How much National Insurance will I pay?

A: National Insurance isn’t as hard to understand as it might first appear. There are four main classes of National Insurance, and the amount you pay depends on which class applies to you. For more information see our resources page or speak to our friendly and supportive accounts department.

Q: How does holiday pay work?

A: Holiday pay is calculated on top of your weekly pay. It’s added to your accrued holiday balance and is shown at the foot of your payslip as Total Holiday Pay Accrued. The holiday year runs from 1st April to 31st March and holiday pay accrued in one year cannot be carried over into the next. Deductions for tax, NIC and Pension will be made when the holiday pay is settled, and annual leave must be booked in line with the conditions of employment you agreed at the outset.

Q: What does the Gold Standard in recruitment mean?

A: This is awarded by Recruitment & Employment Confederation and it basically means we can be trusted by those who work for us as well as those we work for. It’s the most comprehensive regulatory audit of its kind, covering compliance as well as the REC Code of Professional Practice. Among other things, it’s a stamp of approval for the professionalism of our organisation and our best practice processes. This is something we’re extremely proud of.
